How to Get the Most Out of Mistakes

Has this ever happened to you?

Recently I sent out an email campaign promoting one of my 3-Day Internet Marketing Seminars, and by mistake, I sent over 5,000 emails that started with “Hi Bob.”

Aside from the fact that I don’t even know that many Bobs, this huge marketing blunder really doesn’t look at all professional on my part. Naturally people couldn’t resist letting me know of my mistake, in fact one person emailed me right away to remind me that the biggest mistake I could make in marketing is call the client by the wrong name.

Normally I would have agreed! But…

Out of the 5,000 emails sent out; 18 people unsubscribed, 8 people asked me who Bob was, 4 emailed me back to tell me that I had sent them the wrong email and 3 others were joking with me in one fashion or another.

Out of the 5,000 people only 3 people were super ticked off. These are the know-it-alls who promptly told me how to run my business better.

But, do you know what? 23 people signed up for the course anyway.

My huge marketing blunder actually told me a lot about people. Some people don’t care what you call them as long as they get the right information. No ego attached. Some people are so driven by honesty that they took the time to email me to inform me of the fact that I misdirected my email that was meant for Bob!

And, the jokers just found an opportunity to give me their punch line and made me laugh out loud.

Mistakes are truly awesome. Through time, great thinkers have come up with the following great quotes;

“A man’s errors are his portals of discovery” James Joyce

“Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes” Oscar Wilde

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new” Albert Einstein

“Computers have enabled people to make more mistakes faster than almost any invention in history, with the possible exception of tequila and hand guns.” Mitch Ratcliffe

The old Paul with Tinnitus would have beaten himself up for days. The new Paul just sits back and enjoys how mistakes unfold, and watched with both curiosity and detachment how the universe will settle the dust of my mistakes.

At one time this would have sent my stress through the roof and my tinnitus would have screamed so loud I would have been reduced to a near catatonic state.

But, I’ve learned to be grateful for my mistakes, and watch with wonder and gratitude. I grow because of them. I marvel at the lessons, and I admire the perfection in each mistake.

As a professional concert pianist, I used to hate mistakes to the point of disgust. Through my studies, I learned how Miles Davis, the best jazz trumpet player in the world, would relish in a mistake, hang out there a while until a wrong note became the perfect note.

What is potentially perceived as a mistake by thousands is actually just the universe working in strange perfection. Actually, I now have a new story for my students about how a potentially huge marketing blunder isn’t that much of a blunder after all.

Of course, if I didn’t call everyone Bob, my conversion rates would have probably been higher and there would have been no negativity at all.

Or maybe I wouldn’t have received this much attention? It doesn’t really matter. What matters is; if you are hanging on to mistakes of the past, or keep punishing yourself for suffering or your family’s suffering, or you judge yourself for mistakes — it’s time to educate yourself on what mistakes really are.

Mistakes are perfect, they are wise and they are very clear markers in the navigation process towards a great goal.

Let Go and Let it Happen

As I sit here at Newark airport waiting for my connecting flight to Phoenix I have about half an hour to put some thoughts together about creating a tinnitus free life.

I want to start by asking you a question. What happens if you can never rid yourself of the ringing? I’m serious. Think about it for a minute. If the ringing never leaves your head what will you do? How will your life change? How will it stay the same?

The fact is, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, for many people tinnitus is a fact of life. So, no matter how much you want it to go away it may never do so. Let’s just assume for a minute that it doesn’t do away. It will always be with you. What now?

Well, I’d like to let you in on what I believe to be the secret to life. “Let go and let it happen.” That’s right, just act as if tinnitus is here to stay, in other words; accept it.

I’ve talked about acceptance before so I’m not going to use this time to go into again. For now, I want to talk about what happens after acceptance.

I think the next step after acceptance is “doing.” Doing ‘what’ you ask? Anything! The key to life is to figure out what it is you really want to do, follow your inner promptings and most of all; stop trying to figure out how you will get it. Just act upon the opportunities that come your way, detach yourself from the outcome and you’ll get there.

You see, we’ve been taught to need things. And, need will always keep you from what you want. Need denotes lack of something and that’s a negative focus. Therefore, if you keep needing to achieve, buy something, be somewhere, be someone, cure your tinnitus etc. it will always elude you.

A better way to attract what you want is to go to the feeling that you would have if you had what you want. Let’s take tinnitus for example. Think for a moment what it would be like to be tinnitus free? Go to the feeling. Feeling is energy. The closer you can connect with the energy behind getting what you want to faster you will get it.

Now, I know I just told you to accept tinnitus so what am I doing trying to get you to feel what it would be like to not have tinnitus? Because, this method works for manifesting anything you want not just tinnitus. So if tinnitus doesn’t leave you, try to get something else that you want. Then once you get that, you’ll have proof that it works and you’ll be another step closer to believing that you can cure your tinnitus.

Let me explain with a quick example of how this works.

Recently I was starting to have lower attendance in my seminars. So, in an effort to boost attendance I decided to run an ad in a local newspaper. I’ve never had much faith in newspaper ads but decided that I had to do something. It as going to cost a lot of money and is a risk so I just said to myself, “I have to do it” and I did.

What happened? Nothing. Only 2 people signed up to the course as a result of the ad, hardly worth the 4 figures that I paid for it. But, the reason it didn’t work was because of my lack of faith. As I said earlier I have little faith in newspaper advertising and therefore my thoughts became reality.

On the other hand, I was detached from the outcome which means; I put my attention on getting what I wanted (higher attendance) but, I was not counting on the ad to do that. That meant my focus was on getting more people and not on an advertisement that may or may not have worked.

So what happened? The same day I put the ad in the newspaper, I got a call from someone who had been in my seminars before. He had built quite a targeted contact list of business people over the years and wanted to know if he could market my seminar to his people in exchange for a commission on the back-end. I agreed.

As a result, I had one of the best attended seminars in recent months. Of the 85 people that came, 75% of them came from his list. All because I didn’t focus on what might not have worked and put my attention on getting the result.

I pictured in my heart the feeling I would have as a I stepped out in front of an audience and enthusiastically engaged them. Then when the time came to do the seminar I did just that, I followed through on the feeling and I had a great time doing it, not to mention earning 5 figures in 8 hours. Not bad for focusing my intention on the result instead of trying to figure out exactly how I was going to fill the room.

So, whatever it is that you want to achieve, do, be or have, focus on the feeling that you will have when you get it. The higher the energy that you feel, the closer you will draw it to you. The law of attraction is a powerful force in the universe, so powerful that you can manipulate reality and bend it to your will.

But remember, focus only on what you want, feel what it would be like to get it, then detach from the outcome and let it come to you! Works every time!

Harmonic Concordance

“Creation began with a tone, and so it shall end as all is about harmonics.”

If you have tinnitus, this statement likely peaked your curiosity. Given that a “tone” has also dramatically changed my life, and is probably changing yours right now, you will want to read about Harmonic Concordance.

My personal coach, Laurie Rosenfield from the Spiritual Centre in Toronto http://www.spiritualcentre.com/page/page/1430571.htm, recently invited me to attend a Phil Gruber workshop on Harmonic Concordance. I really didn’t know anything about it, but Laurie’s intuition is usually spot on, so I went to see what it was about.

Phil is known as a Kathara Healer. It is a very ancient system, not only of healing, but of understanding our place in the Universe. Kathara is a word in the pre-ancient language of Mu’a/Anuhazi, and it means light (KA), sound (THA) and wholeness (RA). It’s based on tuning into your morphogenetic fields – the living holographic templates of sound, light and scalar waves that ultimately manifest as your physical body – restoring your “Organic Imprint for Health”.

I realize that just the description of Kathara seems like Greek so; initially I really had no idea what he was talking about. However, I stayed present and focused in the workshop hoping to find golden nuggets to share with you.

I came away understanding that some believe that part of the energy work on the planet right now, is to raise consciousness for those linked to the frequency of this experience. I Googled it and found a website that read “In a reality created by electromagnetic energy, one might say that the Harmonic Concordance was (is) a ‘jump start’ for their battery.”

As I listened to Phil, I understood that he believed there were deep connections between the evolution of DNA and sacred geometry (Say what?). However, what was interesting is that Phil believes there is a huge relationship between sound and being. Tinnitus changed my life and made me a better person. In fact, it did jump start my spiritual battery. As you can imagine, Phil’s workshop raised more questions for me then answers. I’m not used to multi-dimensional thinking! However, it did open my mind to new possibilities.

I used to say that tinnitus was my angels screaming at me. Now and then, I still notice my angels but I’m more in a place to be able to master my own life. I don’t need the screaming angels the way I used to. But if millions are hearing or “experiencing” a sound like tinnitus, and tinnitus can only be heard by the experiencer, how then does this harmonic we all hear truly affect us collectively? Are we all becoming better people? Is it moving us towards our true purpose?

Is this frequency for the chosen? Is it indeed jump starting us to a new life? And then it begs to ask the deeper question. I no longer ask “Why me?” from a victim point of view. I now ask “why the millions” from the point of view of being privileged.

We experience the tinnitus, most often, as an invasive sound. But, what if it is supposed to be a healing sound towards a higher calling? A call to bring us closer to a higher frequency of energy? Are we being attuned, quite literally?

As a society, we tend to need to solve a problem like tinnitus from a chemical and biological point of view. People like Phil, look at the manifestation of sound from a spiritual point of view, and say the solution lies in the intelligence beyond DNA. DNA is one level of intelligence, and then there are multi layers of intelligence behind the DNA.

For example, Napolean Hill, one of the best selling authors of all time who wrote Think and Grow Rich, tells a great story about this “intelligence”. His son was born without ears and without hearing. Yet, from the beginning of his young son’s life, he literally trained his son to believe that he would be able to hear one day. Was it a miracle that his son grew up to hear? Was his DNA programmed one way, and the greater intelligence behind the DNA able to correct the once damaged DNA?

We normally call these life occurrences a miracle. Napolean Hill believed that anyone can think their way to anything, including healing. Is thought truly the manifestation of DNA? Can we heal by thought? If so, how do we master thought?

I still don’t know much about Kathara healing. But, some of what Phil was teaching resonated with me as truth. The reason being, I mastered tinnitus by changing my thoughts.

Light and sound do have a very profound effect on humans. That is why you are reading this article right now. Is your tone calling you to your higher purpose, to higher state of vibration or frequency? If so, find your truth, and take an action today that moves you closer to it.

Financial Crisis = Tinnitus Crisis!

Recently the amount of people who are downloading my tinnitus program has skyrocketed.

I’m thinking is has a lot to do with the current global economic situation and political uncertainty. I think people are genuinely stressed about what they read in the papers and see on TV. And since stress is a huge conduit for tinnitus it has generated a lot of interest in my program.

Most people seem stressed, that’s for sure. But, my question is why?

These are not doom and gloom times. These are very exciting times! This is the era of accountability. It is an era when innovation is moving swiftly to make up for the lack of accountability in our corporate and government culture.

There is certainly a diversity of opinions out there. Some economists are saying that “cash is king” while others claim that now is the time when the average Joe can become a multi-millionaire.

What do I think about the current economic situation?

Sure, a few right decisions will get you from here to where you want to be and a few wrong ones will hurt a little. But, either way, the best way to handle any challenge is to measure your risk, and make a decision. What you shouldn’t do is react to the situation and make decisions based on fear.

My friend Katrina owns a 2.1 million dollar home in Whistler, British Columbia at the base of the ski hill. She has owned it for years and with low interest rates it’s been for the most part a great investment.

But today, she’s forced to sell. She’s overextended herself, and her lenders will not be renewing her mortgage – probably because they are on the hook to someone else for the money.

On the other hand, I myself have just purchased another investment property. It’s a great time to be purchasing. Interest rates are very low, there are great bargains out there, and historically real estate is a great investment.

The point is; I’m happy with this economy, because I choose to be. I’ve made some adjustments, I’ve been flexible, and I’ve focused on what’s working, rather than what’s not working. Sound familiar?

If you are stressed because of the perceived economic times we are in, then consider adopting the following behavioral changes;

1) Stress is terrible for your tinnitus, eliminate it!

2) You always have choices – take action or take no action. However, to take no action is an action! Whatever you do, always be learning, and invite opportunities to learn. It’ll empower you to make the best decisions for you.

3) Don’t bury your head in the sand and don’t be afraid of the situation. This is a time for you to analyze your behaviors and attitudes around money, and stay empowered about the choices you do make. Teach your children not to be afraid of money. If you are stressed about paying bills, they will learn to be stressed around paying bills.

4) If you are not a good money manager then you must learn to become one. Managing money is not only about paying bills, budgets and savings and all that boring stuff. It’s also about making more money. Making money can be fun, and if there is more of it there is more for you to share with others!

5) Don’t believe everything you hear, read and see on TV. I know you don’t consciously believe everything, but still, it hard to deny that there is a voice in the back of our subconscious that says maybe we should “fear” an outcome we can’t see yet. Is it here? Has it happened yet? Are we in a recession? Remember, your ability to compensate and adjust to your reality is called creativity. Creativity is the # 1 resource for human intelligence. Don’t be a victim by refusing to be creative.

6) Don’t make bad decisions based on illusion. Wealth and poverty are forms of illusion. The earth school has much more to offer than a rise and/or fall in markets. So, remember to live in the moment, be grateful for each breath, and make decisions when you are grounded. The higher your emotion, the less intelligence you possess. The more grounded you are, the better decisions you will make. Never act out of fear. Act with intuition and certainty.

7) Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you need help get it now, not later. Find guidance online, from a friend, from a mentor, from a tax accountant, from a lawyer, from anyone you trust. Take a seminar, download some e-books, buy a book, or listen to an audio. Whatever you need to do, take action.

You must learn to trust yourself by following your positive instincts. Do not act from fear but get some clarity and make choices that will empower you and your loved ones.

And for crying out loud, turn off the TV!

Are You Feeling Overwhelmed?

Being in a constant state of feeling overwhelmed is not healthy, everyone knows that and that’s why most of us don’t feel like that all the time.

But, what happens if you feel it on a regular basis or frequently enough to cause you distress?

There are a few simple things that you can do to calm yourself and get back some energy and enthusiasm for life. Why is this important? Because, if you suffer from tinnitus, then the amount of stress that you feel as a result of being overwhelmed is directly proportional to how much you are noticing your tinnitus.

And, the worse your tinnitus is – the worse your feeling of being overwhelmed. Why is that? Because tinnitus is a beacon for you to notice that you are not in tune with the universe. Your thoughts and feelings are outside of the now and focused on past events or future results.

As we’ve discovered throughout these emails and the tinnitus program is that there is only the NOW. And, when you feel overwhelmed you cannot be present. Situations and circumstances are pulling you out of the now and into fear and worry.

Fear and worry are the building blocks of stress and the feeling of being overwhelmed.

So, what can you do?

First of all, you must stop frequently and take pause from the activities that are causing you to feel the way you do. In other words, if work is taking over your life then you must stop from time to time and revisit why you do the things you do. Is work so important that it controls you instead of you controlling it?

How do you pause? Stop what you are doing, sit in a comfortable place and breathe deeply. This brief meditative state can literally do wonders to replenish the part of our being that needs attention. So, why don’t we do this often enough? Because our minds love to keep us in a state of constant fear and worry. The mind says, “You don’t have time for this or that.” But, as you have been learning, the most important thing you can do is to give yourself the time to be at peace.

What else can you do? How about helping someone else? This is something that I often do that works wonders in my life. By taking the focus of attention off me and my petty worries and fears and focusing on helping others, I actually replenish my state of being. In fact, just writing this helps me to keep my focus on what’s important in life. By giving you some empowering information I’m actually helping myself at the same time.

In fact, lately because of all the pressures of my businesses I often feel like I’m falling behind. Falling behind what? I don’t know. I just know I feel that way. And, that’s why I’m taking time out to write this so that I can escape the pressures of my business even though it may only be for a few moments.

And finally, if breathing deeply or helping others doesn’t work then try this; get out and do something you love!

There’s a chapter in my “six top ways to reduce the ringing” book that talks about doing what you love. For example; yesterday I played golf. My mind was telling me that I didn’t have time for it. But, I did it anyway and I felt great about it.

However, I might not recommend golf unless you understand that it’s supposed to be fun. Too many people I meet on the golf course and obsessed with playing well. That’s not the point. The point is to have fun and if you do well at it then that’s a bonus.

Well, now that I’m almost done writing this, I have to get back to focusing my attention on some seemingly important matters. They’re not really, but the mind thinks they are and therefore I must do it. There is a reason for everything and I know that certain matters are important not just to me but my family and colleagues.

What is certain is that one day I’ll look back at this busy time and think, I’m glad I took the time to make a difference in the lives of others.

How to Concentrate With Tinnitus

As a person, who in the past has suffered greatly from tinnitus and at the same time living the life of a professional musician, I’m often asked how does that affect my music?

It’s not a simple answer. In the beginning I was of course very negatively affected by tinnitus and as a result it became very difficult to concentrate, especially on my music. So, how was I able to overcome this?

It goes without saying that concentration is not only important at the piano but in anything worthwhile. What worked for me and what you should do first is; stop doing whatever it is that tinnitus is adversly affecting and get up and walk away. Sure, I hear what you saying, “this is my life we’re talking about, I really need to concentrate and get this task done.”

I want to be clear. It’s not so much that I want you to drop out of life and not do the things that you need to do but, you need to really stop what you’re doing when you can’t concentrate at all. Get up and do something you love. Then come back when your mind is not so attached to the negativity of tinnitus.

If you must stay and work or stay and concentrate, try to make the task enjoyable. Also, if you focus on the end goal of the task that will create an enthusiasm to do it. Something that is enjoyable and has a level of enthusiasm will have a great amount of positive energy attached to it. That energy is what will keep your mind from focusing on the tinnitus.

What should you do if in the middle of your task your negative attachment to tinnitus sneaks back in and you really need to keep going? Again, stop for a second and think, what is the purpose of this task? Why am I doing this? The purpose is partly the goal that you have in mind such as; “when I do this what will be the big picture result?”

Purpose is also how your work will positively affect the lives of others. For example; if you dwell constatnly on what’s in it for you, you will stand in the way of getting more of what you actually want. Make your work your purpose. Make your work a way to help others. When you do that, it will be much easier to concentrate on the big picture and therefore concentrate on your work.

I truly believe that tinnitus can propel you to great heights if you just stop the mind from focusing on negativity. If you really think about it, what was your life before tinnitus? Was it perfect? Probably not. Therefore, think about tinnitus as a gift. It is actually is helping you speed up your personal deveopment. It’s helping you to be a better person.

Your lack of concentration from tinntius is a result of your inability to focus on others. Many people are so self absored with a negative attachment to their story that they foget about the rest of the world. Let’s face it, there are many people in the world much worse off than you. Again, tinnitus is not fatal. Therefore anything that won’t kill you makes you stronger if you pay attention to the lesson that it’s here to teach you.

I was the first one to say, when I first got tinnitus, “I can’t concentrate and therefore I don’t need to engage in life.” Wrong. I learned over time that it’s just my mind’s incessant need to focus on negativity. I believe that many people in our world are addicted to negativity. Watch the news on TV and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The act of paying attention to other people’s missfortunes caused you to adopt the negative emotions that come with it. You must stop that.

Living of life of purpose will help you to concentrate. And, when you conentrate your tinnitus will dissappear. It may be there physically but if your mind is not attached, then you don’t really hear it.

Paul Tobey is a professional pianist who has had tinnitus since 1999. He lives and works in Canada where he gives tinnitus and personal development seminars.

Complainers Listen Up!

How soon you create the life that you want is determined by the amount of certainty that you have in achieving whatever it is that you want. Therefore a life without tinnitus can only be achieved, in most cases, by the level of belief that you have that you can live without it.

The problem is; you’ve trained yourself to believe that there’s no forward motion unless you see some kind of physical evidence. Of course, in the case of tinnitus, that would mean lower volume or its disappearance altogether. Therefore, if you still have tinnitus and as you focus only on the fact that you still have it, you are strengthening the effects while reinforcing the cause.

The law of cause and effect, otherwise known as the law of attraction, means that whatever you see or experience in your life is as a direct result of your belief system, or “the cause.” Every thought that you think, or your belief, is the mental aspect that precedes any given reality.

Therefore, if you believe yourself a victim of tinnitus then that reality will perpetuate itself over and over again until you actually start to believe that you can get rid of it. Many people think that this is mental mumbo jumbo, but they would be wrong.

The law of cause and effect is a natural law of the universe and as such cannot be disputed. Your thoughts are the cause which produces the effect. Since everything is energy, including your thoughts, the energy that you’re sending out will bring about and attract the same type of energy and create your given reality.

Until you learn to focus on what it is that you want and stop focusing on what it is you don’t want, such as tinnitus, you will get more of the same. That’s the law of cause and effect in action.

I realize (more than you know) that it’s easy to focus on tinnitus because it seems so real. It also is a disease and as such has a very strong label. But, because we’ve been taught to focus on the problem until it goes away we can’t see that there is another way.

The truth is; you can live without tinnitus. Even if you still have it. I know, because I do. Tinnitus is no longer controlling me. I’m no longer its victim. I choose the things I want in my life and they become real. Whatever I think becomes my reality. I choose to focus only on those things which I want and pay little to no attention on the things I don’t want.

The greatest thing that we can do to slow down receiving what it is we want is to focus on the absence of its proof. Most of us have plenty of proof of the things we don’t have. All we have to do is look at our lives and say things like, “I’m sick and tired of tinnitus,” or “I’m broke,” or I don’t have any friends,” etc etc.

Focusing on these things is paramount to not having them. We look at our situation and form opinions based on where we’ve been and therefore it’s easy to stay where we are because we have plenty of proof to form our belief systems.

Then, what we ultimately do is share our worries, fears, troubles and bad experiences with others. It’s called complaining. Even if you do not understand the law of cause and effect and the only thing that I can get you to do is stop complaining then that will make a huge difference in your life and the lives of the people around you.

So, here is a little exercise that I want you to do. For the next 7 days you are to practice non-complaining. Don’t complain about anything to anyone, least of all about your tinnitus. As easy as that may seem, based on my experience it’s one of the hardest things you’ll ever have to do. Simply, stop complaining. If you do this for the next 7 days you’ll see a tremendous improvement in your tinnitus.

What will happen is that you’ll be happier by not complaining and therefore you’ll be strengthening the cause which will lead to a better effect… less tinnitus. The happier you are the more you’ll attract the things you want instead of what you don’t want.

Then once you see improvement and a result of not complaining, you’ll actually have some proof in your life that you can build upon to get even more of what you do want.

Remember, whatever you’re experiencing in your life has been, on some level at least, invited, created and attracted by you. The only one that can get rid of whatever it is that you’ve created, is you. But, you must go beyond what your mind knows and try something new, if you are ever to get what you truly want. Try it for 7 days; No complaining! Good luck.

Clarity for Tinnitus Sufferers About TRT

When I woke up with Tinnitus the morning of January 6, 1999, I was in a state of panic. My panic turned to fear when my doctor said he really didn’t know anything about ringing in the ears. He said it could be temporary, but referred me to an audiologist.

A painful 2 month wait brought me to the offices of the audiologist. He was the first one who taught me on the word “tinnitus” and coldly informed me it could be permanent, and that there was nothing he could do.

My wife did hours and hours of research on the internet and found the Canadian Hearing Association. They did tinnitus testing and had a “lab” that perhaps could help. They put me in a sound booth and tried to duplicate the sound using their technology so my wife could hear the pitch. The sad news is it was off their scales and they could not even duplicate it.

I was also diagnosed with hyperacusis. The volume of the whole world seemed felt like a violent blow to my entire being. It physically hurt to hear anything.

The CHA recommended a TRT program – tinnitus retraining therapy. Basically, in simple terms, you wear ear pieces like hearing aids that project a different sound into your ear (mine was like white noise). The idea is that it is supposed to mask your tinnitus and recondition your brain to get you to experience a different emotional response. Over time you are supposed to reduce the volume of the ear pieces until you don’t need them any more.

If you Google TRT, you’ll get a more scientific version of it.

The question most asked is: Did it work?

In short, it didn’t work for me. That’s not to say it will not work for you. In my case, it felt like it was another money grab. You see, as a professional musician, I was trained to listen to every nuance of sound since the age of 8.

To retrain my brain after 25 years of listening for sound was a tall order I think. However, I was desperate and that’s why I laid out the money, over three thousand dollars, and I did everything they told me to do. I wore them as prescribed. I did my follow up appointments, and I did the regiment to a tee.

I have heard testimonials from others that Tinnitus Retraining Therapy did wonders for them. It was a bad investment for me. I must confess that even after it became obvious that TRT wasn’t going to succeed for me, that for a time I did wear one of the ear devices on my right ear overnight because it helped me sleep at night.

But now I recognize it was more of a placebo affect. I wanted something to work, and it comforted me to know that maybe this would work. The device was like the comfort of a teddy bear to a child. It wasn’t really reducing my tinnitus volume, nor was it fooling my brain into a different emotional response. In short, my brain wasn’t getting reconditioned at all.

I don’t want to infer that the Canadian Hearing Society is not doing good work, or the TRT program is not legitimate. Maybe it is. However, 7 or 8 years ago, when I was a TRT patient, I clearly knew more about tinnitus than the “assistant” on hand. And I found the audiologist lacked empathy. My personal assessment of the entire program was that it was strictly based on the mechanics of the device, rather than the entire well-being of the patient.

I believe that a human being is made up of 4 essential parts: emotional, spiritual, physical and mental. You can’t cure a human being strictly on the physical realm. You need to deal with the complete human being which includes the four essential parts of the human experience. If you want to get the optimal results for your well-being, then you must examine and heal the entire human being, not just his/her physical being.

And until there is a program that deals with all 4 quadrants of the entire human being, the tinnitus won’t be isolated and cured. That is how I won my fight over tinnitus and I know it’s how you can win yours.

Be Grateful and More Will Come

One of the most powerful feelings that you can have and one that will bring you more of what you want is being “grateful.”

The biggest problem that we have as humans, especially in Western Society, is that we always have our minds set on something more that we can get. Why? Because we think that it will make us happy. That is our main goal isn’t it? To be happy?

So, why then do we struggle, fight, complain and frustrate ourselves to no end trying hard to get what we want in an effort to make ourselves more happy? Because, it’s part of the way we’ve been programmed.

Unfortunately this is a recipe for disaster. There is proof stacked upon proof that struggling and fighting to get what you want never works. Yet, we continue to do so.

The opposite of struggling to get what you want is to be grateful for what you already have, regardless of how little you think you have. Did you know that if you earn more than $2,750 a year that you have more wealth than 85% of the population of the planet? And, if you earn more than $27,500 a year you are in the top 10% wage earners in the entire world.

So, do you have something to be grateful for? You bet! So, why aren’t you grateful? Because you believe there is something better than what you already have. There may be. But, focusing on what you don’t have won’t get you there. Being grateful will.

In a recent seminar I had a lady come up to me at the end and tell me that she loved the course and would like to take my more advanced course but didn’t have the money. I asked why she didn’t have it and of course the response was because of circumstances beyond her control. Naturally.

Well, nothing is beyond her control, and whether she realizes it or not, she is the cause of every negative circumstance in her entire life including being broke. I’m not saying that she attracted it knowingly but rather through a belief system which included not wanting to be wealthy.

Anyway, the point I’m trying to make and what I told her was this…

If I could sell you a piece of property in the nicest part of town (in this case I made reference to Rosedale in Toronto) and I could sell it to you for $3,000 would you buy it? “Of course,” she quickly replied. And I said, “But, you just told me you didn’t have any money.”

“Oh, but I could find $3,000 to buy a house,” she said.

I replied tersely, “Then why wouldn’t you spend $3,000 on learning something that could change the course of your life and your financial situation so that you could buy a real house in Rosedale?”

We tend to make up so many excuses for not having what we want instead of going after it. And, the first part of this is being grateful for what you already have. This particular lady was so focused on her lack of money that she completely negated everything that she does have in her life. That negative attraction is so powerful that no matter how hard she fights or resists her current situation it won’t get better.

So, how do you become grateful for what you already have? By taking a few moments each and every day to think about where you’ve been and how far you’ve come. Looking back at the way your life used to be instead of looking forward is a sure fire way to be grateful.

If you’re always looking forward you’ll never get there. It’s like trying to walk to the horizon, it will always keep moving further and further away from you.

Take a moment right now and think about the person you used to be and what you used to have. Were you angrier, more frustrated, more broke, less happy? Now look how far you’ve come and feel good about it. The stronger the feeling the more grateful you are and the more energy you’ll put out.

I’m sure that you can find all kinds of evidence to prove to yourself that you don’t have much. So stop trying to find it. Search for evidence of abundance and you will find it and more.

There Are Only 3 Ways to Attract What You Want

For tinnitus sufferers, attracting what you want may be difficult because of course the mind wants to focus on what it doesn’t want, the tinnitus. However, if you are to truly get what you really want in life and at the same time, get tinnitus off your mind, there is only three ways to do it successfully.

The answer however, is not in the doing, it’s “how” you do it. And, that will require three different behavioral and emotional attitudes. The first is “acceptance”. Being able to accept things as they are and not fight your mind’s need to control every situation is paramount to any successful life.

The problem is; the mind has been conditioned to judge, criticize and complain when things don’t go your way. You must stop the mind from doing that. Many people try to be right by fighting or resisting what they think is wrong. My question to you is; would you rather be right or would you rather have what you want? Any negative attachment that the mind has to any given outcome creates resistance. And, the more you resist, the more it will persist.

Being able to accept what is means that you have adopted acceptance. You have created what is called detachment. Once you have that, then you are able to take whatever comes without any negativity whatsoever.

Once you have adopted acceptance and detachment, it’s time to move on to a more effective way of getting what you want and that is to “enjoy” what it is that you do. Enjoyment is a much more powerful energy than acceptance.

The thing that you need to know about enjoyment is that you do not have to work at it. Choosing things that you love to do will automatically create enjoyment. It’s an intrinsic motivation or a motivation that comes from within. Whatever you love to do will have an inherent level of enjoyment and therefore that energy will draw situations, circumstances and people to you that are positive and will give you more of what you want.

The third way of doing anything successfully and the strongest energy that you can create is enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is when you combine the energy of enjoyment with a goal or purpose. Unfortunately for most people they have no idea what their purpose or goal in life is. And, if you are ever to adopt enthusiasm on a constant basis you will have to figure it out.

The best way that I know how to find your purpose is to ask yourself what it is you love to do and then attach a level of “how will this help others” to it. When you help others you automatically open the flood gates of everything that is good in life.

The rule is this; when you help others get what they want, you will have it in abundance. The very fact that you are trying to help instead of asking “what’s in it for you” implies purpose. Your life will become easy and whatever you fought against in the past will disappear. This goes for tinnitus as well.

I think the problem for most tinnitus sufferers is they can’t see past their own suffering. But, when you think about it, doesn’t suffering imply a level of what’s in it for me? You’re hoping for healing when what you really should be doing is helping others heal first. Now, as hard as that may seem for you at the moment it really is the fastest way to get what you want.

Unfortunately, many people never outgrow their limiting beliefs. And, for most people the limited belief of focusing on your problems so that you can fix them is totally against all known laws of the universe. You must flow with the universe and to do that you will need a purpose. Find it. You’ve been given a great life and you must repay in kind for the life you’ve been given by helping others to have great lives.

Learning to accept the things you may not like to do, enjoying what you love to do and the enthusiasm that comes from pursuing your life’s purpose will give you everything you’ve ever wanted. Don’t forget though, when you don’t get what you want, don’t dwell on it. Instead, shift your attention to acceptance and go do something you love that helps others.
